MCS-8 (SIM8-01) Donation!

We have just cleaned the latest donation to the museum: a 1972 MCS-8 (also known as the SIM8-01).

The MCS8 chassis accepted either an Intel 4004 processor board or an Intel 8008 processor board.

Our unit has the 8008, Intel’s first 8-bit microprocessor – very cool!

It also has a built-in EPROM burner.

We will add more to the wiki later, but for now, here are a few pics:

    Hi
First, a 4004 will not work on this board ( not sure who told you that ). The bus for the 4004 and 8008 are quite different.
I’m particularly interested in the data in your EPROMs. I have a friend that has just acquired a SIM8-01, MCB8-10 and MP7-07. We are trying to get it running but unfortunately it has no ROM/EPROMs.
We have found a small bootstrap loader on bitsavers. We’ll be using this initially.
We’d be quite interested in dumps of you EPROMs. I have a SIM4-01 and MP7-03 setup running that I use to copy and program 1702A EPROMs, if you don’t have the means to make copies.

    Hello

I have come across an original SIM8-01 Serial Number 737.

I would like to make the interface board MCB8-10, but I cannot find an image of the underside. The top side foil pattern is in the manuals.

Do you happen to have some copy of the underside foil design?

Would it be possible to get some photos of the underside flat on, so that a PCB could be made?

I am usually hoping to have all my old computers working!

It would be great if you could help,

    Regards

    James Brown
